Fallbrook Martial Arts

“Ninety percent of self-defense is mental. Everyone should leave the security of their home believing that they can defend themselves and feel confident in their abilities,” says Merrilee Neal, fourth-degree black belt and owner of Fallbrook Martial Arts ATA Black Belt Academy for five years. “Learning to fight is one thing but learning when to fight is more important. Our society struggles with so much violence, we hope to teach students to avoid physical confrontations if possible and utilize self-confidence when situations arise.”

The ATA Black Belt Academy is a member of one of the world’s largest martial arts organizations, the American Taekwondo Association. Taekwondo is an exciting and powerful martial art known for its kicking and hand techniques. Although these martial art techniques are centuries old, they are constantly evolving to keep up with the rapidly changing world.

Learning and practicing the martial arts is a way of life. Not only is there a mental and emotional impact, there is the added bonus of physical conditioning of the mind and body. “Being a martial arts instructor is multi-faceted, you are a coach, mentor, trainer. A good instructor must be able to reach out to each student’s interests, abilities, and to challenge them to new heights,” says Merrilee.

“Being a positive part of the community is very important to me, knowing that through our program students gain valuable skills, which positively impact their lives for years to come,” says Merrilee. Students age three-years-old and up can learn to gauge their behavior on the principles of martial arts. Martial Arts training has been utilized in the harshest environments to re-teach socially acceptable behavior.

You can see the passion and love of this training just by spending a few minutes with Merrilee. “Affecting people’s lives is rewarding, to see people do things they never thought they could do is amazing.”
