The Insider's Guide to Fallbrook, California

A short 18-mile drive from the Pacific Ocean, the greater Fallbrook area is well known for its gently rolling hills, lush groves, ancient oak trees, equestrian and walking trails, riparian areas, nature preserves, and Mediterranean climate.

Artist profile: Carol Lindemulder

"Red Grass," oil on linen by Carol Lindemulder, 2005Carol Lindemulder is passionate about paint, oil paint on canvas. She moved to Fallbrook from San Diego in 1998, in order to find a serene and inspiring landscape in which to create her art. Her studio always welcome to any visitors, sits high above Reche Road, with a mountain view. Her work is represented here in Fallbrook at Fallbrook Fine Art Gallery, and is known for vivid colors on large canvases.

Carol’s Artist Statement reads: “…Lindemulder paints the places where we live, and the places which we leave behind; the seeds we sow, and the fallow fields. Color is the language she uses to convey each place, each personal choice of home.” There is often a barn, derelict homestead, falling fence, and growing fields from America’s Southwest, seen in each painting.

Carol Lindemulder once owned a roller coaster, the Mission Beach Giant Dipper, which she was helping to preserve as a National Landmark. She was then known at San Diego City Hall as “Coaster Carol”. Founder and first President of the “Save The Coaster Committee”, Carol spent 25 years involved in preserving many of San Diego’s historic sites, and served as Vice Chair of the City’s Historic Sites Board. The connection to her preservation efforts, and her love of the hidden stories she sees behind our old homesteads and farms, is obvious, but now she preserves them in oil paint.

"Mount Lemmon," oil on linen by Carol Lindemulder, 2005Carol has exhibited professionally in shows across the country, and her work has been purchased for a number of prestigious California art collections. She teaches oil painting, and color at Fallbrook Art Studios.
