A short 18-mile drive from the Pacific Ocean, the greater Fallbrook area is well known for its gently rolling hills, lush groves, ancient oak trees, equestrian and walking trails, riparian areas, nature preserves, and Mediterranean climate.
Youth Agricultural Activities
Youth
in Fallbrook and Bonsall have the opportunity to learn skills in the areas of
raising and showing livestock as well as floriculture and home arts. A sense of
personal responsibility and community pride are just two things the youth bring
away from this valuable experience.
Fallbrook
and Bonsall 4-H Club
Because our area is so steeped in agricultural tradition, Fallbrook’s 4-H
program for youth is one of the largest in California. Bonsall also has a large
and active 4-H group. Area youth are afforded many opportunities to excel in the
home arts as well as in raising and showing livestock. 4-H members also
participate in the San Diego County Fair at Del Mar and take home many blue
ribbons each year in all divisions including sheep, cattle, swine, and poultry.

Future Farmers of America
Fallbrook High School offers an FFA group, which is quite active. Their
winning ribbons and colorful blue jackets emblazoned with FFA logos are always a
familiar sight at San Diego County Fair competitions. These youth are well
trained and really know how to handle their animals, especially the cattle. It
is not uncommon to see the large animals completely under the control of these
talented FFA members. FFA members also cultivate a wide selection of plants and
herbs, which the public may purchase at the school.
Fallbrook Youth Fair
The Fallbrook Youth Fair has been sponsored by the Optimists since
approximately 1956. It is primarily a competition for animals; however, plants
are also showcased. This fair offers game booths for children and a
mouth-watering tri-tip barbecue.
